That Kind of Lover

(written by Carolyn Green)

I'm writing poems in my sleep.  All the words have gathered 'round me, but the feelings aren't complete.  I try to pull down what to say now, to you, to you.  Sometimes I get disgusted with myself.  I've got a head that needs rebuking and a heart left on the shelf.  I need to finally rest my eyes upon you, now, you.

And it's strange how much can just get lost in the flurry of the days.  And the things unsaid, like notes unread, get piled up in space.

Chorus: But I want to love you like a wave upon a cove, crash relentlessly with tenderness forever.  I want to love you like the sunlight up above, rising faithful, I want to be that kind of love, I want to be that kind of lover.

I didn't think I had so far to come.  I guess I just don't feel like looking when a promise goes undone.  And there's still so much left I can learn about you, really you, now, you.

And someone once wrote on paper that love seeks not its own way, and the Author of this mystery now speaks to us today.

Chorus:

I want to love you like the man who met the Cross, stretched His arms out and embraced it for another.  I want to love you like the countenance of God, rising faithful, I want to be that kind of lover.  Oh, I wanted to be that kind of lover, oh, I want to be that kind of lover.  I want to be that kind of lover.
