The Hard Thing

(written by Carolyn Green)

The lyrics:

We come home complain and shout it, but do not a thing about it all for fear of what we’d lose. For if we stand up and confront it, we’ll be singled-out and shunned by those who fear the sting of truth.

Cause it’s a lonely path and so we keep on looking back, so we don’t have to choose to do the hard thing. Cause it’s a lonely path. We’d rather have a heart attack, so we don’t have to choose to do the hard thing.

Well, tip your hat off to Mr. Lincoln, but his final proclamation only came to win a war. You see few prefer the option to act justly unless people of the movement shake the floor.

Should you choose to be a lighting rod, should you choose to move out of the pack, just remember you are not the first and pray you’re not the last.

So I kneel again this winter, and I wonder if the case that I now make has me convinced. ‘Cause you must draw on higher power if you know that you are called to be a voice in wilderness.
