Hold the Line

(written by Carolyn Green)

The lyrics:

We can get dressed up for dinner but all we can comment on is food.  When the patter turns to what we think, we choke upon the somber mood.

All of this time I assumed that our distance had to do primarily with miles, but here I am on the shore to watch your easiness recede like the turning out of the tide.

I know you know I'll always love you. You know, I know you love me, too. But there are times you want to see me through lenses that superimpose a point of view.

And I can tell that it's not your intention to keep me mute, like a small dependent child. It's just the way you turn silent when you seem to disapprove. It's the way you hold the line. The way you hold the line.

And it's hard enough just to see that we don't agree when a cold front comes in like a sudden freeze. And I'm not asking you to change your views, or understand mine as I do, just grant me the freedom to be me.

Send me an olive twig to tell me, there is someplace we can land. Maybe the sun will come and dry this flood that still covers where we stand.

Throw out a rope that can cover this distance. For I know it's not so far as the miles. And I hope I can show you have room to hold me too. While you hold the line. While you hold the line. You can hold your line. You can hold your line.
