GreenChoby: Listen/Lyrics
Change
The story:
Mike Choby says: "This song was written almost 20 years ago now, and it reflects a younger Mike Choby and the ongoing attempt to order a disordered life. I had been a rather sad person, and my awakening in Christ birthed a awareness of real love and grace that was intense and overwhelming. I didn't want to write a simple line by line account, (how poetic), and the whole thing felt very surreal. I found myself thinking about irony and dichotomy, and how so much of what we do has a very different result than what we intend or expect. This is what led to the many almost nonsensical up and down, back and forth images of the verses. I deliberately wanted odd, vague, symbolism, as it seemed to reflect best my odd state of mind. Not much has changed since then I guess,(ha ha), but I am still motivated by the sheer joy and relief reflected in the chorus. A little change would do you good... indeed..."
The lyrics:
Things are getting crazy, spinning round and round, round, round, All the things you hold above you end up tumbling down. I put on my blinders on a one-way street, Started questioning all the people that I meet the people on the street.
It came as a surprise the very thing I found, all these questions were my own intentions that had fallen to the ground. I said, “There has to be a way out, Oh Lord, won’t you help me find out.”
Help me find a change (something has changed.) in my life Some kind of change (something has changed ..) in my life
I fell down to my knees, I begged for some kind of rescue-me. You know there has to be a way out of all this tussle and moan. Then I thought of you in the midst of it all, found your number went to give you a call. It was a child that spoke to me, it was a child that said me free, that said, “You know there’s a way home now, Lord’s, gonna help you make it somehow.” Find a change. Find a change.
A change’ll do you good, knowin’ that you should, find a way to go home. Oh, there’s been a change now in my life. Oh, there’s still so much pain and so much strife, but Lord now I know I’ve found a way outta here. I’m gonna make it through the right door, love is all I live for now, that a child spoke to me, that little Lamb set me free, that said, “You know there’s a way home, now, Lord’s gonna help you make it somehow.
Oh, help me change (something has changed..) in my life. Some kind of change (something has changed..) in my life. Well a change (something has changed..) in my life. There’s been a change . .
